How to control your dreams.
Did you ever want to dream about something that you knew it could only happen in dreams? Ever wanted to re-dream your most imaginative and creative dreams? Then read on...
STEPS
1) Buy a small notebook, set it close to your bed and keep a pen nearby to write down what you dreamed about. (Or you can type it in a word processor program in your computer).
2)Before you go to bed each night, write what you want to dream about in the notebook. (Be sure to label somewhere near the top of the pad!) Draw pictures, write and draw with lots of detail, remember even the smallest things are important. Don't watch something before you go to bed or you may dream about that! (certainly not anything dodgey too).
3)Read what you've written as many times as you need to get it in your head.
4)Lie down, relax, and think hard about what you want to dream about. Think of details, they are important!
5)Close your eyes and look at the images from your dream as they appear in your subconscious. If nothing appears, read your dream again. Imagine the sounds in the background, what you are seeing, feeling, etc.
6)Think of it in the 1st person point of view. Imagine what it would seem like through your eyes.
7)Think of dialogue and sounds in your dream until you are hearing them in your mind.
8)Think hard, but maintain a calm posture. Do not get tense. Just relax.
9)Go to slepp with these images and sound in your head
10)When you wake up, whether you had the right dream or not, write what happened parallel or connected somehow to the dream that you wanted to have. Again, label!
11)Compare the two dreams and think about the similarities and differences, write them down, or simply ponder over them.
12)When you're having a dream and realize that you are having a dream,(this is called "Lucid Dreaming") then you can control anything that happens. But you can't just know how to figure out you're dreaming, you must do reality checks to help you master the concept of Lucid Dreaming and Dream Control. A few good reality checks are: 1. Try to make a clock in your dream go backward. 2. Usually in reality your day wouldn't be going as chaoticly as it would in your dream. Take things to recognition that are unusual. When you realize you're dreaming, try to calm down to prevent yourself from waking.
TIPS
- -Try to sleep in a quiet area with no distractions whatsoever.
- -Play music associated with your dream quietly. (not loud or you might not sleep)
- -Label everything!(especially if you have a bad memory)
- -Remember fine details, as they are important.
- -Read your dream journal often.
- -Try having a symbol on your ceiling or near your bed that you can easily access. Stare at it for a few minutes before you go to sleep, and stare at it for a few minutes when you wake up. This can help you remember your dreams better/more often.
- -If this happens when you remember your dreams, you may lucid dream.
- -An easy way to realize that you are dreaming is to (before you go to bed) draw a symbol on your hand. As you fall asleep, think "When I look at my hands, I will realize I am dreaming." or something similar. If you wake up and realize it didn't work, try again. Eventually you will think in your dream, "My hand!" and Lucid dreaming should begin.
- -Lay in silence and darkness well before you are ready to fall asleep, in this time play out a day dream in your mind and slowly drift off into that.
- -Another way to lucid dream is when you are awake look at an analog clock and try (in your mind) to make the second hand move backwards. It won't work when you're awake, but try the same thing in you dream and if the second hand moves backwards you will realize that you're dreaming.
- -Dream control isn't the same as lucid dreaming, although they are simular to each other.
Warnings
- -Remember! Dreams are images and thoughts your subconscious is trying to remember.
- -Remember! It is a dream, nothing can physically hurt you in your dreams.
- -Too much concentration can awake you from your dream, try to go with the flow of the dream and change the things you don't like
- -If you try to concentrate as you fall asleep, you may stay awake. The point of the aforementioned activities (writing it down, etc) is that your subconscious mind is the thing you want to be concerned with what you want to dream about.
- -When you are still and silent long enough, you may go into sleep paralysis. This is NORMAL and OK, you go through it every night but you sleep through it. This might happen if you awaken during the night and you stay still long enough, it may cause WILD (Wake Induced Lucid Dreaming)and you ought to be able to control your dream then.
- -You will not always be able to control your dreams. It usually takes a couple tries when you start out.
